About
My research interests include how adolescents and adults construct and enact literacy practices within and across personal, school and community spaces. These interests include: how students use digital composing tools to mediate writing and related social actions, how students develop disciplinary literacy practices within and across content areas, how teachers leverage students' interests and literacy practices in their instruction, and how people participate in civic engagement across virtual and geographic spaces.
I am a former high school English teacher and am currently teaching pre-service English teachers at Kennesaw State.
Currently, I am working with two research projects: (1.) a study of community literacies and civic engagement mediated by blogs and forums associated with an online, community newspaper (funded by a grant from the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing at Ohio State) and (2.) a study of the collaborative planning and composing of high school students writing fantasy fiction and designing video games with digital tools in an elective English course.
